Protecting your Intellectual Property (IP) in Japan

June 29, 20224:00pm to 5:30pm

Protecting your Intellectual Property (IP) in Japan

Your IP is a valuable asset that is key to your business success, but a Canadian patent, trademark or industrial design does not secure your rights in Japan.

In Canada, nearly half of businesses in the clean technology (48%) and the information and cultural industries (48%) own at least one type of IP, followed by manufacturing (33%) and wholesale trade (31%) businesses. More than half of businesses that own IP, credit it with improving their success in some capacity. Yet, when expanding to other markets, IP protection tends to be postponed, sometimes until it is too late.

If you are thinking of doing business in Japan, including selling products online or manufacturing products, you should consider obtaining IP protection. The Embassy of Canada to Japan in collaboration with Gowling WLG and Shiga International Patent Office invite you to a webinar where you will receive first hand practical advice on how to best protect yourself in Japan.

Date & Time:

June 29, 18:00 to 19:30 (Toronto/Montreal)
June 29, 15:00 to 16:30 (Vancouver)
June 30, 7:00 to 8:30 (Japan)

Topics to be discussed:

  1. Overview of the Japanese IP system
  2. Differences registering IP in Japan compared to other jurisdictions
  3. What do Canadian companies need to pay attention to?
  4. IP enforcement in Japan and legal resources
  5. Common challenges faced by Canadian SMEs

Join us on June 29 to learn more about developing your IP strategy for the Japanese market!
