About Deep Tech Canada

Deep Tech Canada (DTC) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to advancing Canada’s deep tech ecosystem by connecting innovators, researchers, industry leaders, investors, and ecosystem partners. Through programs, events, and strategic initiatives, DTC supports the growth and commercialization of Canadian deep tech innovations.

We are seeking a motivated and relationship-oriented Business Development Officer to support the growth of Canada’s deep tech ecosystem through partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and ecosystem outreach.

Reporting to the Innovation Partnerships Director, the Business Development Officer will support the identification, development, and management of relationships with Canadian companies, research institutions, innovation organizations, industry associations, government partners, and ecosystem stakeholders. This role will play an important part in expanding DTC’s national network, supporting membership growth, and creating opportunities for collaboration across Canada.

The ideal candidate has experience in business development, partnership management, or stakeholder engagement, with a preference for candidates with experience in life sciences, biotechnology, health innovation, or related deep tech sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the identification and development of new business opportunities within Canada’s deep tech ecosystem.
  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with domestic partners, including companies, research institutions, innovation hubs, industry associations, government organizations, and ecosystem stakeholders.
  • Support the development of interprovincial partnerships and activities that strengthen collaboration across Canada’s innovation ecosystem.
  • Assist with relationship management of existing members and partners to support engagement, retention, and growth opportunities.
  • Conduct research and maintain awareness of Canadian innovation trends, market developments, and emerging opportunities in deep tech sectors, including life sciences, biotechnology, health innovation, and related areas.
  • Monitor federal, provincial, and private funding opportunities that may support DTC’s programs, partnerships, and growth initiatives.
  • Support the preparation of partnership materials, proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of partner engagement activities, meetings, and ecosystem initiatives.
  • Represent DTC at industry events, conferences, and networking activities as required.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Background in science, or related fields. 
  • Additional education or professional training in business development, partnerships, or innovation is considered an asset.
Experience
  • 2+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, stakeholder engagement, ecosystem development, or related roles.
  • Experience working with Canadian innovation ecosystems, industry networks, research organizations, or tech companies is preferred.
  • Experience with membership organizations, economic development, accelerators, clusters, or industry associations is an asset.
  • Grant writing or funding proposal experience is considered an asset.
Knowledge and skills: 
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.  
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.  
  • Outstanding client management focus. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
