Mathieu Juan is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Institut quantique. He obtained his PhD in nano-optics and nanotechnology in France in 2008 at Université de Technologie de Troyes, then worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Spain (ICFO), Australia (Macquarie University), and Austria (IQOQI) on various topics such as optical trapping, quantum optics, and superconducting circuits.
In 2020, he joined the Département de Physique and Institut quantique at l’Université de Sherbrooke (Canada), where he now studies hybrid quantum systems with an emphasis on magneto-mechanical systems that couple mechanical and microwave components via magnetic interactions. Leveraging quantum circuits, his current work focuses on controlling and preparing quantum states in mechanical resonators for sensing and transduction applications. In early 2025, he co-founded a company, SilQ Connect, to develop quantum interconnects.

Seven years ago, Quantum Days was born out of a shared conviction: the quantum community is stronger together. What began as a virtual meeting point has grown into Canada's premier forum for quantum science, technology, and strategic insights. In the current geopolitical context, that founding conviction has never felt more relevant.
At the core of this gathering is a firm belief in the inseparable nature of fundamental and applied quantum research. Quantum technologies are rooted in deep scientific understanding: of entanglement, coherence, error correction, and the material sciences that make quantum systems possible. Without sustained investment in fundamental research, the pipeline of future breakthroughs runs dry. Yet just as fundamental science feeds innovation, ideas cannot transform our economy or reinforce our strategic position while remaining in the laboratory. With Quantum Days 2027, we strive to showcase advances in foundational science alongside dedicated programming on translation, commercialization, and the role of innovation ecosystems in bringing quantum solutions to society. We are particularly pleased to deepen our engagement with Canada's regional innovation hubs, whose role in bridging discovery and deployment has never been more critical.
